Ce poate iubi mai mult un creator decât… propria-i operă prin care devine… nemuritor ?

Pe 26 aprilie știm că a fost… botezat Shakespeare. Este singura informație pe care o avem despre timpul nașterii sale și ea ține locul zilei de naștere.
Desigur există shakespeare-ologi care cred că s-a născut 23 aprilie. Posibil.
Oricum, dacă e să ținem seama de … acte, valabilă rămâne tot ziua de 26 aprilie.

Am dorit să-i omagiem spiritul, traducând unul din sonetele sale foarte intime: Sonetul 107. Cel care ne dezvăluie că avea complexul creatorului nemuritor. Un creator a cărui „true love”, de care nu se va lăsa niciodată, își „sfidează destinul de captivă într-un anume timp și un anume spațiu”… într-o anume epocă, vârstă, lume…

O singură observație: Shakespeare și-a scris Sonetul 107 în ceasurile de meditație asupra valorii sale și asupra… nemuririi sale. Și, desigur, pornind de la o lectură: Oda a III-a a lui Horațiu.

SONETUL CVII (107)

Nici propriile-mi temeri și nici sufletul, ce de profeții se-mbată,
Al lumii largi, visând la lucruri ce-au să vină,
Nu pot să-mi spună să-mi las iubirea-mi cea adevărată,
Ce-i presupusă a fi sfidat destinul ce-o ținea captivă.
Muritoarea lună nu pieri-n eclipsă, ea dăinuie și-acum, la locu-i stând,
Și augurii, cei sătui de toate, de ale lor preziceri își râd acum;
Lucruri de care te-ndoiai că au să fie se-ncununează acum, ele pe ele însele, ca sigur existând,
Și pacea o vestesc măslinii vârstei fără de sfârșit de-acum.
Acum scăldată-n picurii acestui timp, prea-plin de mir, cum altul n-a mai fost,
Iubirea-mi proaspătă și pură se-arată și Moartea mă-îngăduie și-mi dă în scris că pot trăi în veac,
De-acu-nainte, trecându-i peste voie, am să trăiesc în aste biete rime, cu un rost.
În timp ce ea se năpustește asupra neamurilor fără grai și minte, ce-n lume se petrec:
Acesta fi-va monumentul tău, din opera-ți ivit,
Când ale tiranilor panașuri și ale lor morminte de aramă de mult vor fi pierit.

NOt mine owne feares, nor the prophetick ſoule,
Of the wide world,dreaming on things to come,
Can yet the leaſe of my true loue controule,
Suppoſde as forfeit to a confin’d doome.
The mortall Moone hath her eclipſe indur’de,
And the ſad Augurs mock their owne preſage,
Incertenties now crowne them-ſelues aſſur’de,
And peace proclaimes Oliues of endleſſe age.

Curator’s comments:

First engraved for the first folio of 1623, and re-used for later folios until the 4th of 1685. According to Hind, this impression comes from the 3rd folio of 1663/4.

The Droeshout portrait of Shakespeare is one of only two likenesses of the bard that can lay any strong claim to authenticity. However the source of the engraving is unknown, and the crudeness of the engraver, most notable in the poor proportions and incomplete costume, ensure question marks over the true likeness of Shakespeare remain. For a detailed discussion see Tarnya Cooper, ‘Searching for Shakespeare’ (Yale, 2006) cat.1 pp.48-50.

This portrait is thought to be one of the earliest depictions of the Bard, although it was unlikely that engraver Martin Droeshout ever saw Shakespeare in person. It was commissioned for the First Folio by John Hemmings and Henry Condell who were part of the King’s Players, Shakespeare’s acting company.
